In a small group of up to 6, learn traditional skills to take you from being a novice silversmith to confidently creating your own projects. You don’t need to have any experience to join this course, it is great for absolute beginners and those wanting to brush up on old skills. Each class is jam packed with information on the science behind the jewellery, where to buy tools, how to load your saw blades and much more!

Each student will receive a starter pack which includes..

– A sketchbook

– Saw blades

– Copper sheet to create samples

– A handout to support each session

Course outline

Week 1 - Introduction to Tools - Design and Sample Session

The course starts by introducing you to Silversmithing tools and basic skills; sawing, annealing, texturing and stamping – Including use of texture hammers, the rolling mill and metal forming tools. Creating a range of samples and design ideas for the coming weeks. (Copper Sheet Supplied)

Week 2 - Soldering Session - Making a band Ring

You will then go on to make yourself either a ring or bangle, learning the processes of soldering and creating strong and clean solder joins.

Week 3 - Saw Skills - Making a Pendant or Earrings

Saw skills are an integral part of making jewellery. You can make a pendant, earrings or something decorative for a ring as you begin sawing your own shapes and silhouettes.

Week 4 - Working with Wire

Many jewellery projects include wire - So it is important to learn how to bend and manipulate wire to create findings and pieces. During this session you will begin to use all the skills you have learnt so far to make either rings, hoops, a pendant or bangle.

Week 5 - Recycling your scrap silver - Pebble Charms

Over the weeks you will start to gather silver scrap, being able to turn this into jewellery is great for recycling, saving yourself money and making something beautiful! Learn to melt, form, hammer and create decorative pieces for your jewellery - Including granulation and pebble charms.

T&Cs

The price includes your starter pack and a drink each session. Silver can be purchased weekly for your project or you can choose to work with copper.

There are strictly no discounts or refunds if you miss a class for any reason, please be sure you can attend all 5 classes before booking your space.
