Introduction to Silver Jewellery - A 6 Week Course

This course will guide you from a complete novice to confidently beginning your own silver jewellery projects.

It will have TWO teachers, myself and and co-Colour Factory member, Emily. Emily graduated from UCA in 2019 with a BA in Jewellery; she is also a member of the Association of Contemporary Jewellery, Design Nation and Society of Designer Craftsmen. Emily’s work has been featured in a number of exhibitions, from London to Monmouth, Munich to Beijing. After embarking on a jewellery course and learning the skills,

I started my business in 2016 and have been teaching jewellery making for the past five years. I have nurtured hundreds of students and encouraged them on their own jewellery journey.

Total Price £350 Inclusive of materials for 5 weeks.

A non-refundable 50% deposit (£175) is required to secure your space with the remainder to be paid by the 11/12/23.

What’s Included?

Each student will receive a starter pack which includes..

– A sketchbook

– Saw blades

– Copper sheet to create samples

– A range of wires

Silver is included for weeks 1-5. On the final week you have the opportunity to finish pieces from the course or work on your own designed piece, which you will need to supply your own silver for.

Course outline

Week 1 - Tutors Jessica and Emily

- The course starts by introducing you to the jewellery tools and equipment you will be using throughout the course, as well as getting you acquainted with basic skills using sheet metal and wax.

Week 2 - Tutor Jess

You will then go on to learn different soldering techniques, such as layering metals and creating joins - Taking away with you, a sparkling silver ring you will make to size.

Week 3 - Tutor Emily

With these skills learnt, you can then start to experiment with your own forms and shapes as you learn how manipulate, texture and form wire to make your own silver chain bracelet.

Week 4 - Tutor Jess

No piece of jewellery is complete without a beautiful finish. Polishing and finishing is a great skill to learn – For this part of the course you will be taught how to sand and refine your work to a high standard using both papers and a polishing machine. You will design and make your own silver pendant with a range of finishes, satin? Mirror? Or maybe a Patina? The choice is yours!

Week 5 - Tutor Emily

Experimenting with the different techniques you have learnt over the previous weeks, you can design and make your own hoops, studs or dangly earrings!

Week 6 - Tutors Jessica and Emily

The final week is your chance to bring together all of the skills you have learnt and create your own designed piece. For this you will need to supply your own materials based on your design. We will introduce you to the best suppliers and how to order your silver, including how to best plan your pieces to suit your budget. Or if you prefer, you can revisit pieces from the previous weeks or have your wax pendant from week 1 cast and take the opportunity to refine and polish it up!

The price includes your starter pack and also the materials for classes 1-5. For the final week, you have the opportunity to work on your own project or revisit pieces from previous weeks. Materials for your own project must be covered by you, we can help you to design a piece suitable for your budget.

There are strictly no discounts or refunds if you miss a class for any reason, please be sure you can attend all 6 classes before booking your space.
